Purchase of Discovery Catalog Approved

SirsiDynix Enterprise

In July, DALNET Project Managers recommended moving forward with the purchase and implementation of the SirsiDynix Enterprise discovery catalog. The DALNET Board subsequently approved and funded the purchase for two years (2013-2014).  Contracting has been completed and system configuration and testing for the hosted system is scheduled to take place this Fall.  Enterprise is a next-generation catalog that will provide a single search interface for member library print, A/V, and electronic materials.  The system will also be able to index DALNET Digital Archive repository collections in DSpace. In addition, Enterprise will provide "Rooms" content pages that libraries may use to create online pathfinders and subject guides. Each shared system member will have a customized interface for Enterprise.  Adoption of a discovery interface is a current strategic focus of the consortium.

DALNET Board Approves New ERM Services

reSearcher

The DALNET Board has previously recognized the need to expand DALNET services beyond that of the shared integrated library system (ILS).  Part of this recognition includes the need to better integrate search for print and electronic resources.  The Board has approved the establishment of Electronic Resource Management (ERM) services for DALNET using the reSearcher suite of open source software known as CUFTS: Open Source Serials Management.  Initial implementation will focus on configuration of the link resolver that is part this software suite so that it may be used with the Enterprise discovery catalog.  DALNET's adoption of an  ERM system with a link resolver positions the consortium for a stronger future.  Work on the project will begin immediately for an anticipated launch in 2013.  Recent Wayne State University graduate Jing Jing Wu, MLIS, has been contracted to work on the project.
