Future System Planning Update
The RFP Task Force had an initial meeting
last month and will be
working with the DALNET office to complete a final RFP, which is
anticipated for release this month. The RFP should allow the
Task
Force to narrow the field of prospective vendors by examining how well
proposed products meet the needs of the criteria previously defined by
the consortium. Following that, demonstrations are
anticipated
from 2 to 3 vendors in July/August of this year. After
demonstrations and visits to other libraries that are currently using
the potential systems, the Task Force intends to send their final
report and/or recommendations to the Project Managers, Executive
Committee, and Board. User input will likely also be sought
for
the public interface as part of the demonstrations. To keep
up
with planning, visit the Future
System Planning project page. [Member Login

DALNET
Cataloging and Database Standards Committee
The DALNET Cataloging
and Database Standards Committee has produced a revised draft
of the DALNET
Guidelines for Bibliographic and Authority Databases.
The committee worked very hard on the document and it is now ready for
review. Members are encouraged to discuss the
document and
let the DALNET office know any comments, questions, or
issues. The Project Managers plan to vote on approval for the
document later this month. Once the document is approved the
DALNET web pages for cataloging and related policies will be updated to
remove older materials and to incorporate the new document.
DALNET
Annual Meeting Committee
The DALNET
Annual Meeting Committee
has scheduled this year's meeting for the morning of August 10, to be
held at Wayne State University. The committee has tentatively
identified a theme of "Sharing Our History" developed around preserving
history by moving forward with digital initiatives; keynote
confirmation and agenda forthcoming.
Web
Site Review Task Force
The Web
Site Review Task Force
held a meeting and provided input to the DALNET office for content,
feature, and design revisions for the DALNET website. Some
noticeable and visual revisions will be coming soon to the website
homepage, with other revisions to follow. Thanks to the group
for
all of their input!
New
DALNET eLibrary Digital Collections
The DALNET office has imported three new
eBook collections into the
DALNET Union Catalog for use by members. One
collection is
the Getty
Publications Virtual Library, which consists of 234 titles
from the J. Paul Getty Museum.
Another is the Met
Publications collection consisting of over 400 titles from
the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. The third collection consists of 28 titles
from Knowledge Unlatched,
a group committed to "opening access to scholarly books."
Thanks
to Allie Keller for all of her years of service to DALNET,
representing Rochester College on the DALNET Board of Directors, as
Chair of the Board, as Executive Committee member, and participant and
chair of many committees! As Allie prepares for retirement,
she
sends us this update:
I am hoping to move my mom and dog to
Kansas City in July. I will be helping with grandkids (nine-year old
twins and a 3 year old). I am not sure if I will have time to work
part-time, but may do that as well if I can find something. David will
work one more semester and follow in the spring. He will be looking for
a job. We do hope to spend more time with grandkids, travel and find
church work and other volunteer activities in the area. KC has a great
art museum so I am planning to spend some time there too! If anyone is
in the KC area let me know and we will be glad to host you. I have
really enjoyed my years in Michigan, although I did not think I wanted
to move here initially. Michigan is a beautiful state and I really
enjoyed being near Detroit. I am so glad to see it making a comeback.
We have many close ties to RC so will be back to visit. Our youngest
son has a romantic interest here so he may stay , therefore another
reason to visit. I have also enjoyed my association with all the DALNET
members and staff. I hope you continue to grow and thrive.
Blessings, Allie
Congratulations
