Upgrades
and Server Migrations
Shared Systems
The Horizon server was migrated to a virtual machine on July 3rd.
HIP was virtualized on July 26th. Horizon and HIP
were also both upgraded to the latest releases on July 26th.
Our last anticipated upgrade for the summer will be for
Enterprise on August 7th. The WebReporter machine will also
be migrated but no interruption to public service is expected.
Footprints
Work is currently underway to move the Footprints help desk to a new
virtual server. This work also includes an upgrade of the
software to the latest release. Footprints will
be installed on the new server and will provide some new
useful features, as well as stability and speed.
Web Server
The DALNET Web Server will be migrated
to a virtual machine later in the year. Before this work is
scheduled and completed, an assessment of services on the machine will
be reviewed. Members with digital collections
hosted on the machine will be consulted.
Surveys
This month, Project Managers will be sent a survey to set up profiles
for the new Footprints help desk installation. Previous
accounts from the existing system will not carry over to the new
installation.
Member institutions will also be asked to participate in a survey to
assess what services are currently subscribed to for link resolvers,
serials A to Z lists, and related services. This important
survey is intended to help plan future shared system needs and to
gauge current member expenditures for these resources.
Participants will be sent direct links to surveys via e-mail.
Educational Forum
and Annual Meeting
Don't forget the DALNET Educational Forum and Annual Member Meeting
on Friday, August 9, from 9:30AM - 4PM at Wayne State
University's Undergraduate Library. Lunch will
be
available from 12-1PM following the keynote
speaker, Lorcan
Dempsey, Vice President, OCLC Research and Chief Strategist.
His
topic will be "The Network Rebalances the Library: Patterns and
Questions."
During
the Annual Member Meeting there will be a DALNET annual update,
breakout sessions, and a discussion of e-resource management.
Registration Fee of $15 includes parking, continental breakfast, and
lunch.
Registration
Open Until August 2nd
Library Spotlight Program
The new, free Library Spotlight Program gives your library an easy way
to publicize your location, hours-of-operation, programs, links and
photos across a variety of online sites and services. Just do a quick
search for your library at www.worldcat.org/spotlight,
and “claim it” to get started. OCLC pre-populates information about
libraries from a variety of data sources, so you may find that half
your work is done for you when your register. After that, make any
corrections and additions you like, and in about 10 minutes…you’re
done!
