Oral History
Transcription Workshop
Using Express Scribe
On Monday, July 8, 2013
from 1:30 to 4 PM in the WSU Undergraduate
Library's Community Room, DALNET will offer a free workshop for
librarians interested in volunteering to be a part of the "Detroit City
Poets Oral History Project." Eleven one-hour interviews need
to
be transcribed from audio files. After the workshop, each
volunteer will be expected to transcribe one interview of approximately
1 to 1.5 hours in length, which will require an estimated time
commitment of fifteen hours. The workshop will provide
background
information on the project and interviewees, and will use demonstration
and hands-on activity to show attendees how to use "Express Scribe,"
the open source transcription software. This will include downloading
the free software on your own computer, setting up the template, using
the
style guide, and using shortcuts. Transcribers will be acknowledged for
this professional service/achievement opportunity. WSULS presenters
Diane Sybeldon and
Troy Eller will conduct the workshop.
**Attendees should bring their own headphones to the workshop.
