Remembering Jim Flaherty


The DALNET community was saddened to learn of the passing of James Flaherty on May 24, 2011.  Jim, retired Media Specialist at Wayne County Community College District, was also the former DALNET Board member and Project Manager for WCCCD.  Upon his retirement, the DALNET Board presented Jim an award honoring his many years of dedicated service to the consortium.  The DALNET office is collecting money from members this month to make a donation to IN-HOME Hospice Care in memory of Jim.


Upgrade Update for Horizon System

Members will begin HIP/OPAC testing for the upgrade this month.  More information will be sent out on the mailing lists.  The Fourth of July Weekend is the target date for the production upgrade of Horizon and HIP.


New MCC Board Member

Macomb Community College has hired Michael Balsamo, former associate dean of business administration, as the new Dean of Learning Resources & Libraries.  Balsamo will join the DALNET Board of Directors as the new MCC representative.  Welcome, Michael!


DALNET Director to Keynote at OCLC Program

OCLC will present “Good Practices for Great Outcomes: Cataloging Efficiencies that Make a Difference” at Wayne State University's Bernath Auditorium on Friday June 17, 2011 from 10 AM to 3:15 PM.  Roy Tennant of OCLC Research and Steven Bowers, Executive Director of DALNET, will keynote at this event, hosted by the Wayne State University Libraries. Also featured will be Jody Harnish from Ann Arbor District Library and Beth Callahan from Wayne State University who will discuss workflow efficiencies and cataloging challenges. This is a free event for OCLC members and lunch will be provided by OCLC.
