DALNET Board Approves Upgrades for Horizon System
The DALNET Board has approved upgrade plans for Horizon/HIP.
Upgrading to the newest version of the system will provide many new
features, bug fixes, and support for newer computers. The
Project Managers will discuss the upgrade at their February meeting and
will be asked to convey project information back to their
libraries. A committee of volunteers from DALNET member libraries
will be formed to assist with preparing member institutions for
anticipated changes in the way the HIP OPAC is configured and how it
will operate. These changes will better situate the consortium to
operate like most other shared systems. The upgrade is planned
for this Spring/Summer. Look for lots more information coming in
the following months.
Report from ALA Midwinter Meeting
Steven
Bowers met with several vendors at the American Library
Association's Midwinter Meeting, January 7-11, 2011. Bowers
gathered information regarding currently available integrated library
systems (ILS) and their features, and how those systems meet the needs
of a consortium like DALNET. He also met with representatives from
SirsiDynix, vendor of the Horizon ILS, our current ILS vendor.
