Office Relocation

[February 15, 2002]
Currently, the nine DALNET staff members are spread out over three floors in the Science and Engineering Library (SEL) and in one office in the Adamany Undergraduate Library. The staff will begin the first phase of our office relocation on Monday, February 18. Anaclare, George, Martin, and Negib will move out of their current office spaces so that those offices can be repainted and recarpeted. They will temporarily be located in a newly constructed DALNET office on the sixth floor of SEL. Eventually the entire DALNET staff will be housed on that floor.

When Michael Piper arrived as Director, he began reviewing our options for relocation to the Purdy-Kresge (PK) Library. We identified space that would have spread the staff out over four offices and two floors in that building. We then began planning to remodel those offices and acquire the furniture needed. At the same time, WSU planned to move their Computer Support Team (CST) from the PK Library to the SEL.

The strategic planning process initiated by newly arrived Library Dean, Sandra Yee, however changed this scenario. Jeff Trzeciak was given the added responsibility for Media Services. Therefore, it made more sense for the CST to stay in the PK Library where Jeff Trzeciak and Media Services were located. DALNET was then offered the space that had been planned for the CST. DALNET agreed that the SEL space would meet some of our needs, and with the construction of a new office provide sufficient space.

One initial problem with the new space was the lack of a training room. However, Jeff Trzeciak is working with DALNET to configure and make training rooms at WSU available to us. A benefit of our new office space is a small meeting room, which will give us much-needed space for discussions with members, consultants and vendors.

We will keep you apprised as our relocation progresses.
