New DALNET Web Site
[January 25, 2002]
Jackie Wrosch has been working hard in the last few weeks to organize the "new"
DALNET Web site design. This design was initially prepared under contract by Curtis
Skewes in conjunction with the DALNET Web site committee, formerly chaired by Mary
Galvin. The committee's hard work resulted in the design that will go live on January 28.
DALNET is putting plans in place to insure that in the future we can make changes to the
Web Site in a timely manner.
Changes made to the version last seen by the DALNET members include the addition of
a "News" page where you will find previous issues of "This Week". There are also new
links for projects such as MiLE and linkages without any information were removed.
Other pages have been updated to reflect current information and changes that have
occurred in the last few months. Jackie is also preparing the Health calendar for
continued testing by that working group and we plan to restore your ability to self-
register for DALNET classes.
Future developments for the DALNET Web site will include moving the site to a new
server, scheduled to occur in the next few months. The transfer will result in minimal
downtime and should be transparent to our users. This is a part of a larger plan to
reorganize equipment at Wayne state Universities Computing Center and minimize the
footprint for DALNET servers.
We also have plans to offer new services and provide more information to you, our
members. Some of our plans will include the posting of committee rosters and minutes, a
calendar of DALNET events, and documentation and reports. We plan to create a
mechanism for sharing ReportSmith reports that your colleagues have written, and
develop a mechanism for customer empowerment allowing you to run selected scripts to
accomplish tasks such as restarting WebPAC.
The DALNET staff have checked to make sure the information on the Web Site is
accurate and up-to-date. However, if you see incorrect information, please Contact Us and we will try to get it corrected quickly.
