The Detroit Area Library Network

Steven Bowers Appointed as the Director of DALNET

[June 5, 2006]
Steven Bowers has recently been appointed the new director of the Detroit Area Library Network (DALNET). Hosted at Wayne State University since 1985, DALNET includes hospital, private academic libraries, community colleges, special libraries such as the Detroit Institute of Arts and The Henry Ford, the Detroit Public Library system and Wayne State University Libraries. DALNET members collectively serve a region of four million people.

Bowers has been at DALNET since 2005, serving first as systems librarian and later as interim director of DALNET. He works with the DALNET Executive Committee and the DALNET Strategic Planning Committee. “Steven’s leadership will keep DALNET moving forward as we respond collectively to the digital age,” said Dean Sandra Yee, of Wayne State University.

Bowers graduated from Wayne State University with a master’s of Library and Information Science. Before his arrival at DALNET, Bowers served as the director of Library Services at Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan.

“I am committed to taking DALNET into the future with plans for completion of a successful merge database project, several new Digital Projects and implementation of other new services and technologies,” said Bowers.
