Detroit Library Anniversary Shared With Community

[July 22, 2005]
The Detroit Public Library celebrated 140 years of service to the community with an "Anniversary Celebration" at Main Library in Midtown Detroit. Hundreds of library supporters, employees, retirees and civic leaders joined in the celebration. The library was honored with proclamations and resolutions form the State and City. The event included presentations, tours of Main Library, and a ‘Birthday Cake’ modeled after the Main Library.

The Detroit Public Library is among the largest public libraries in the nation, and is the largest library system in the State of Michigan. The Main Library and its 23 neighborhood branches make it one of the most valuable and accessible public institutions in the City of Detroit. To find out about locations, hours, special collections, events, exhibits and on-line database services as well as career and employment information, call 313-833-1000 or visit the Detroit Public Library web site at http://www.detroitpubliclibrary.org or any local branch library.
