JOHN D. DINGELL DEPT. OF VETERANS AFFAIRS MEDICAL CENTER

The John D. Dingell Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is an 133-bed primary, secondary, and tertiary care health care facility providing acute medical, surgical, psychiatric, neurological, dermatological and intermediate inpatient care and both primary and specialized outpatient care to veterans living in the metropolitan Detroit area. The medical center also operates an 84-bed nursing home care unit and supports two veteran outreach centers in Dearborn and Detroit. In addition to providing high quality care to its veterans, the medical center supports a very active research program which involves many multi-VA facilities studies

The Detroit VAMC is affiliated with the Wayne State University School of Medicine and serves as a training site for many of its students, residents, and fellows. The medical center also maintains educational agreements with most of the major universities and community colleges in the surrounding communities and the state for training of students in the allied health area.

The John D. Dingell Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center Library supports the informational needs of its many customer groups, including health care providers, patients and their families, students, research staff, and employees. In addition to lay health material available in the library, patients also have access to a separate Patient and Family Learning Center.

The Library participates in various resource sharing consortiums, including the national VA Library Network. As an active member of these groups, the library is able to provide its customers with materials outside its own collection as well as provide reciprocal lending to other libraries.

The library does not maintain a public web site at this time. However, the medical center does maintain a website at http://www.detroit.va.gov/.
